Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain rice (basmati or jasmine preferred)
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter or olive oil
  • 2 cups vegetable broth or water
  • Fresh herbs (cilantro or parsley), chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Melt butter (or heat oil) in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in ground turmeric, mixing well with the sautéed garlic, then add rinsed rice and stir for another minute.
  4. Pour in vegetable broth and season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer, cover with a lid, and reduce heat to low.
  5. Let it simmer gently for about 15 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed without lifting the lid.
  6. Turn off the heat, let it sit for another 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork and stir in freshly chopped herbs.

Notes

For additional flavor, add a pinch of chili flakes or a dash of cumin. You can substitute brown rice if desired, but be aware of adjusted cooking times.
