- 1 cup brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 4 egg yolks
Instructions
- Gather your brown sugar, butter, and milk. Whisk egg yolks in a bowl and set aside.
- Melt the unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and cook until bubbling and fragrant.
- Slowly whisk in the milk and heavy cream until the mixture thickens, about 5-6 minutes.
- Combine cornstarch with a splash of milk to create a slurry, then add it to the saucepan, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Remove from heat and temper the egg yolks with some warm mixture before whisking them back into the saucepan.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour into serving dishes and cool before refrigerating for at least two hours. Serve chilled with whipped cream and sea salt.
