Description

Delightful Chocolate Wreath Cupcakes that combine rich chocolate flavor with festive cheer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • Festive sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with festive liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a larger mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add the granulated sugar, mixing until well combined.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully mixed before adding the next. Blend in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and finishing with the flour mixture. Be careful not to over-mix.
  6. Spoon the batter into prepared liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. For the frosting, melt chocolate and let it cool slightly. Beat in softened butter and powdered sugar until creamy. Add the melted chocolate last.
  9. Use a piping bag to frost the cooled cupcakes in a wreath shape and decorate with festive sprinkles.
  10. Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.

Notes

Substitutions can be made for dietary needs: use vegetable oil for butter or dairy-free milk alternatives. For vegan, replace eggs with unsweetened applesauce or a flax egg.
