Description

A comforting and hearty chowder filled with tender potatoes, smoky sausage, and rich cream – perfect for chilly evenings and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb smoked sausage or Italian sausage, sliced
  • 2 large Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme or parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Peel and dice the potatoes, dice the onion, and mince the garlic.
  2. Sauté the Sausage: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sausage and brown for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the Aromatics: Add the diced onions and minced garlic. Sauté until the onions are translucent (3-4 minutes).
  4. Incorporate the Potatoes and Broth: Add the diced potatoes and pour in broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.
  5. Simmer Until Tender: Simmer for 15-20 minutes or until potatoes are fork-tender.
  6. Create the Creamy Base: Stir in the heavy cream, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for another 5-10 minutes.
  7. Finishing Touches: Stir in fresh thyme or parsley before serving.
  8. Serve: Ladle the chowder into bowls, garnishing as desired.

Notes

Feel free to customize with additional vegetables like corn or carrots, or make it dairy-free with coconut milk.
