- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk (dairy or dairy-free)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying (peanut or vegetable)
Instructions
- Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk, then add to the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Heat oil in a deep pot to 360°F (182°C).
- Insert skewers into hot dogs and dip into the batter.
- Carefully place coated hot dogs into hot oil; fry for 3-5 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oil, drain on paper towels, and serve hot with dips.
Notes
Make sure the oil is hot enough to avoid greasy corn dogs. Adjust batter consistency if needed.
