Description

Delightful cinnamon rolls decorated with a spooky red icing, perfect for Halloween gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ tsp active yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk or fruit juice
  • Red food coloring

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast, letting it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a larger bowl, whisk butter, sugar, and eggs until well combined. Add the yeast mixture and mix thoroughly.
  3. Gradually sift in flour, cinnamon, and salt. Knead the mixture until smooth—about 10 minutes—creating a soft dough.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle shape. Spread softened butter over it, and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon mix generously.
  6. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into even pieces. Arrange in a greased baking dish.
  7. Allow the rolls to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and red food coloring until achieving a thick glaze.
  10. Once baked, allow the rolls to cool slightly and pour the glaze over them while they’re still warm.

Notes

You can substitute almond milk for traditional milk and use coconut oil instead of butter for a dairy-free option.
