- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup buttermilk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- Red food coloring
- Black or Halloween-themed sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.
- In another bowl, mix together the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
- Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling them about 2/3 full. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cupcakes in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat the butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and red food coloring until light and fluffy.
- Apply the frosting generously on each cooled cupcake and add sprinkles for decoration.
Notes
Aim for 2/3 full cupcake liners to ensure proper rising and shape.
