Description

A nostalgic and comforting green bean casserole with a creamy mushroom sauce and crispy topping, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 cup crispy fried onions
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Wash and trim the green beans. If using frozen, ensure they are thawed and drained.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté the chopped mushrooms until golden, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir in the sautéed mushrooms and green beans.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, adding cheese on top if desired.
  6. Sprinkle crispy fried onions over the casserole.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Let sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, use low-fat soup and milk. Feel free to substitute broccoli or asparagus for green beans.
