Description
Delightful Red Velvet Brownies that blend cocoa and buttermilk for a rich, fudge-like treat topped with cream cheese frosting.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add the buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, and vanilla extract; mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring just until combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow to cool, then frost with cream cheese frosting if desired, and slice into squares to serve.
Notes
For a vegan version, substitute buttermilk with milk and vinegar mixture and use flax eggs instead. Use quality cocoa and food coloring for the best results.
