Description

A comforting and nostalgic Tuna Pasta Sauce that combines the richness of tuna with fresh herbs and sautéed vegetables. Perfect for busy weeknights and family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Canned Tuna (in oil or water)
  • Pasta (spaghetti, penne, or your favorite)
  • Olive Oil or Butter
  • Garlic (fresh or powdered)
  • Onion (optional)
  • Fresh Herbs (like parsley, basil, or oregano)
  • Mushrooms (button, cremini, or shiitake)
  • Lemon Juice or Zest
  • Salt and Pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pasta: Cook your pasta according to package instructions in a pot of salted boiling water. Reserve a cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add chopped onions (if using) and sauté until translucent. Then, toss in minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the Mushrooms: Stir in sliced mushrooms and cook until golden brown.
  4. Incorporate the Tuna: Gently fold in the drained canned tuna, breaking it up with a spoon.
  5. Season the Sauce: Add lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste, followed by a sprinkle of your chosen herbs. If the sauce looks too thick, add reserved pasta water until desired consistency is reached.
  6. Combine with Pasta: Once your pasta is al dente, drain it and quickly transfer it to the skillet, tossing everything together until well coated.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve hot, garnished with additional herbs or a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

Use high-quality tuna for the best flavor. Feel free to experiment with other vegetables.
