Description

Delicious and fluffy Vegan Ube Rolls made with vibrant purple ube. A delightful treat perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup ube (purple yam) puree
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup plant-based milk (almond, soy, or oat)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup vegan butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm plant-based milk and active dry yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, melted vegan butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix in the ube puree until combined.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle. Cut strips and shape into rolls.
  7. Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and fragrant.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving. Optional: Add a pat of vegan butter on top.

Notes

For variations, incorporate cinnamon or nutmeg for an additional flavor layer. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate for a week.
