Description
A nostalgic dish that combines the sweetness of Coca-Cola, savory soy sauce, and fresh garlic to create a delightful glaze for chicken.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs boneless chicken (breast or thighs)
- 1 cup Coca-Cola (regular)
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp fresh thyme or rosemary
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- Water (to mix with cornstarch)
- Optional: crushed red pepper for a kick
Instructions
- Gather your ingredients and preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) if baking.
- In a skillet over medium heat, sauté minced garlic in oil until golden.
- Pour in Coca-Cola and soy sauce, stirring to combine, then add brown sugar and let dissolve.
- Add chicken pieces to the skillet, ensuring they’re coated in the sauce.
- For baking, transfer the chicken to a prepared baking dish.
- Allow chicken to simmer for 15-20 minutes or bake until cooked through, tenting with foil if baking.
- In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry and stir into the sauce to thicken.
- Let the sauce reduce to a glossy glaze, coating the chicken beautifully.
- Baste the chicken with the glaze and return to heat for a few minutes to char.
- Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
Notes
You can substitute chicken with tofu or fish, and use maple syrup instead of brown sugar for a twist. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days or freeze for up to six months.
