Description

A delicious guide to preparing and mastering the flavors of tri tip, perfect for family gatherings and barbecues.

Ingredients

  • Tri Tip Roast (2 to 3 pounds)
  • Olive Oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Garlic (4 cloves, minced)
  • Fresh Rosemary (2 tablespoons, chopped)
  • Salt and Black Pepper (to taste)
  • Optional: Chili Powder or Paprika

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine garlic, rosemary, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Add chili powder for extra flavor if desired.
  2. Generously coat the tri tip with the marinade and let it marinate for at least an hour, ideally overnight.
  3. Before cooking, allow the meat to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  4. For grilling, preheat grill to medium-high and cook the marinated tri tip for about 30-40 minutes, flipping halfway, until it reaches 135°F for medium-rare.
  5. For oven roasting, sear in a hot skillet for 5 minutes on each side, then transfer to a preheated oven at 425°F for 15-20 minutes.
  6. For slow cooking, place the marinated tri tip in a slow cooker on low for 6-8 hours with broth or water.
  7. After cooking, let the tri tip rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  8. Serve with your favorite side dishes such as garlic mushrooms or roasted veggies.

Notes

Allow the tri tip to rest after cooking for maximum juiciness. Pair with garlic mashed potatoes or a fresh salad.
