Description

Delicious Red Velvet Brownies with a rich cocoa flavor and the option to add cream cheese icing for an elevated dessert experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan and allow it to cool slightly.
  3. Stir in granulated and brown sugars until well combined.
  4. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by vanilla extract.
  5. Mix in red food coloring and cocoa powder until fully blended.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt, then gradually fold into the wet mixture.
  7. Add buttermilk and mix until just incorporated.
  8. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly; optionally sprinkle pecans or chocolate chips on top.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out mostly clean. Let cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for better blending. Watch baking time closely to avoid overbaking.
